The region

Las Colinas Golf & Country Club situates in the south of the Costa Blanca where Europe’s largest inland sea (the Mar Menor) and the Mediterranean can be found. There are many villages and cities in the area with every imaginable amenity such as: promenades, marinas, restaurants, bars, shops, schools, hospitals, (water) sports centers and golf courses. The sea temperature of the Mar Menor reaches the Caribbean  temperature of 30 degrees Celsius during the summer. Between the two seas there is the La Manga strip, a thin strip of land where tourism for the Spaniards started about 40 years ago. They also call this strip the Spanish Miami. The beach of Collados Beach Club and the club itself at the end of the strip are worth a visit.

Murcia has 14 protected nature reserves with rugged mountains, wide sandy beaches, idyllic coves, dunes and biking & hiking trails. Around the Mar Menor there is a safe bicycle route and in the sea there are small islands that can be visited by boat. In this area you can also find the exclusive “La Manga Club”, 3x voted best golf resort in Europe. At this resort (and at Las Colinas Golf & Country Club as well) in December 2011, the second stage of European Tour Qualifying School, was played.

The recently restored historic port city of Cartagena has the largest natural harbor in Spain. It is located in a beautiful scenery with idyllic mountains and castles. Among other attractions, you will find an amphitheater, historic city walls and a cathedral dating from Roman times. The Cartagenians are very proud of their beautiful city and love to celebrate that by organizing diverse festivities. As in the last two weeks of September, when the city two weeks long is transformed into the ancient Roman city of Carthago and thousands Cartagenians parade through the city wearing beautiful Roman clothes every night.

The cosmopolitan main city of the province is Murcia, the “Madrid of the South” and even surpasses Cartagena atmosphere and crowds.

Culinary region
The regional cuisine is typically Mediterranean, with a variety of ingredients, flavors and aromas.

Rice is the basic ingredient and plays a leading role in a wide variety of dishes, accompanied by fish and seafood from the Mediterranean. Also vegetables and fruit from local orchards, legumes, pork and game are other local delicacies. Different types of fish are an excellent choice for lunch, or they are usually boiled in salt or baked (good for bream, sea bass, mullet), cooked (white fish is best) and salted (tuna, mullet roe and marinated tuna belly with tender young beans).
